Many are working diligently on Clearwater’s capital improvements plan to upgrade our entire campus for campers now and well into our next 90 years! These “sparks” provide updated information about our fundraising efforts and construction progress on current projects.
Site Plan Overview and Fundraising
As we shared in the October Site Plan Sparks, we launched the first phase of projects in May 2023 with the generous support of a few advanced donors. The first phase will be completed in time to welcome our 2024 campers and their families on Opening Day (Wednesday, June 19). You can read about the current construction progress later in this post. All the site plan projects are outlined via this button:
The current projects have been funded by board member commitments and the generosity of six additional donors who made advanced gifts to the site plan. We have secured approximately 40% of the total required to fund all the projects in the site plan. We now invite the rest of our community to help us fund future projects in our capital campaign, The Bond that Binds Us: Building Clearwater’s Future.
You can review Clearwater’s fundraising goals and consider how you want to support Clearwater in this new brochure.
We know that Clearwater has a vibrant community of current families and alums who we are looking to connect with to share more about our Capital Campaign and what it means for the future of camp. We were thrilled to kick-off our campaign in Chicago on February 29th with alums and current families. Our next social will be held in Denver on Sunday, May 5th. This summer we will also host tours at camp for those who want to see all the great upgrades.
If you are interested in helping plan a Clearwater social in your hometown or if you want to join the campaign, please contact our Development and Communications Director, Sheila Ferguson: sheila@clearwatercamp.org or 901-830-7896.
Construction Progress
Thank you to everyone who submitted creative nautical names for the new Welcome Building. We announced at our capital campaign kick-off in February that the name will be Mainstay.
Exterior construction is nearing completion and soon our contractors and designer will be concentrating on the interior finishes. Here is a recent photo of Mainstay’s construction progress:
We are also excited to share that the new maintenance building’s name will be Backstay.
Jared is organizing supplies and equipment from the old maintenance shed to make this an efficient space where he will complete buildings and maintenance projects in order to keep camp safe and functional. In addition, since one of the goals of the site plan was to eliminate vehicles driving through the middle of camp, all deliveries to camp will be made at Backstay.
What’s Next as we Prepare for June 2024?
Stay tuned for our next installment of Site Plan Sparks later this spring to see what’s happening. A few things to look forward to:
- final touches (stripes, nets, hoops, etc) will be made to the new sports courts
- an updated illustrative map for campers will be created
- the camp store will be relocated to Mainstay
…and more!
