FAQ

Who are the campers?

Our campers come from all over the country and world, ranging in age from 8 – 16.

How many counselors and campers are in a cabin?

We like to keep a small camper to staff ratio, generally 6 campers to 1 staff person per cabin.

How do I get to camp?

Many staff choose to drive so they can have their car available for days off. We offer airport pickup at Central Wisconsin Airport in Mosinee (CWA) and Rhinelander (RHI). Airport schedule TBD.

How does the hiring process work?

We accept applications on a rolling basis beginning in November. Once an application is submitted, we will review the candidate and schedule Zoom interviews accordingly.  We ask that all applicants read the following Interview Guide in preparation for their interview as it contains very helpful information about being a counselor and will most likely answer any questions that you have about Clearwater or the upcoming summer: Clearwater Interview Guide 2025

Can you tell me more about pre-camp training?

12 days in length, we provide the essentials of what you need to know to have a successful summer working at Clearwater Camp. The goals of training focus on community building, skill building, and risk management. Additionally, we have an optional week before pre-camp begins that is dedicated to staff members receiving their Lifeguard and/or Wilderness First Aid certifications.

What certifications do I need?

We ask that all of our staff become certified in Wilderness First Aid and like to see as many staff as possible with their Lifeguard certification. We offer both certifications the week before pre-camp training begins.

What do I need to know about camp forms?

All staff must complete their forms by May 1st. This gives our office and health care staff ample time to review. We require an annual physical, copy of your immunizations, and conduct a background check. As of 2025, forms can be filled out through the Companion App on your phone, as well as through the Campminder website.

What is the salary for working at camp?

All positions at camp have a different base salary, which can be found on the position description pages found here. Additionally, there is a $200 dollar per year bonus for returning staff, as well as an additional $50 bonus for returning to the same position for leadership roles.
