First Session: Week 1
Camp Blog Book

Greetings from the Northwoods,

We are thrilled to report that it has been an amazing first 5 days of camp.  Our Opening Day was full of smiles and laughter as old friends reunited and new friends connected for the first time.  The bus arrived in record time which gave everyone a couple of hours to settle in and unpack before a delicious spaghetti dinner.  Following dinner, cabins got paired up with their “sister cabins” so they could meet some new friends from other units.  Then we had our traditional first-night-of-camp “Counselor Skit” where the campers get to learn about each of the different activities and counselors through a silly performance.

Thursday we had our traditional “Cruising Day” where the campers rotated around camp in their cabin groups to see where all the activities meet and learn about what they will be doing at each activity.  During this time campers also got to do their swim tests, canoe dumps, and kayak dumps.  The water was a little brisk but all the campers were troopers and powered through with smiles on their faces.  After dinner, we gathered on the waterfront for the traditional reading of the Tajar Tales.  Campers got to learn about three important camp characters: the tajar, the witch, and the range ranger.  Afterward, we had an all camp sing led by our fourth year point campers.

Wednesday we had our first day of scheduled activities and it was full of firsts.  We had dining hall announcements about campers getting up on water skis for the first time, getting bullseyes for the first time and even had two campers who worked together to catch a 17 inch walleye!  Thursday we had another great morning of activities and even got to send off our first group of trippers on a hiking trip.  Rest hour was full of excitement with a storm rolling in out of nowhere and even bringing some hail with it.  Once the storm cleared everyone was able to head out for their packouts which included a wolf lesson at a nearby nature center, pottery painting in town, pickleball, paddle boarding, crafting, and fishing with our favorite guide, Rob.

We can’t wait to see what else is in store for the rest of the week!

Happy camping,

Kat
